Free-market institutions have built the intellectual case against visible central planning. AI safety institutions ask whether powerful models are aligned, safe, or well governed. Both bodies of work matter. Neither fully answers Sponte’s question:
Which consequential judgments must remain human, plural, contestable, and open to exit—no matter how capable the model becomes?
Technocratic power can now be privately owned, algorithmically executed, and presented as a market outcome. Answering it requires command of both the liberty tradition and the machinery of capital allocation, decision theory, mechanism design, and machine learning.
The existing institutions are allies, not rivals. Sponte fills the missing institutional seat between them.
